It’s been a whirlwind of a year, but a pretty awesome one. ( I leave as soon as I finish this up and post it!) I ended the year with a few days at Joshua Tree National Park with my son and just got home in time to join some friends for New Year’s Eve tonight. I am looking forward to so much more of that in 2024! I missed life drawing most of the year, but joined a totally fantastic session with the Bay Area Models Guild at the end of the year and plan to go more often in 2024.Īnd this is the year a bunch of you joined me for monthly sketching sessions on zoom where we made art together and learned so much from each other. It was another year in which my sketching family turned up for me, keeping me on track, reminding me it was time to go sketch the iris before they were gone, or spending days together experimenting with new materials. I had an unplanned 2-week trip to Morocco to teach a workshop in October, which was quite an adventure!Īnd I came home and did a demo with Sketch View World Tour which you can watch here.Īnd I finally wrote that post about my sketchkit here. I still find it strange that she’s not home. It was a very special trip that I will remember for a long time!Ĭome September, and kid #1 left for college at UC Davis. I spent 4 weeks in the summer traveling wiht my kids in Europe. The upside of crazy rain in February and March? A superbloom in April and May! Every night was another motel that looked just like the previous one! We did a week of driving with stops from Arizona, to So Cal, Central Coast, and then back home. In April, I took my daughter to check out colleges so she could decide which one to go to. I have no evidence to show for it, but I can tell you it was quite eye-opening to look at my portraits of people on the stand and see how much of my thoughts could be read in them. I served on a Grand Jury this year, for 4 weeks, and through all the days of the trials, I sketched everything that I saw and heard into a sketchbook I knew I could never photograph or take out of court. It was a year of bizarre weather, of waking up to heavy snow in all the mountains around San Jose In February (You have to live here to know how strange that is) and storms pulling down huge trees all through March. This is the year I had the honor of being a Creative Ambassador to the City of San Jose, leading sketchwalks around the city all year round. This one was pretty action-packed, starting with a winter break in Hawaii, followed within a week by my first workshop in India in January. Thank you for coming along for the ride for yet another year.
